About
I frequently joke that half the reason I do just about anything in this life is to take photographs.
Growing up, my father was the family photographer. I looked on with keen interest, my father noticed, and gifted me my first camera when I was nine years old. It was a simple point-and-shoot, and I took it with me on a visit to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. When the film came back, my father remarked with pride that I had a good eye.
I haven't put a camera down since.
I truly began studying the craft in high school, first learning the basics on one of my father's 35mm Olympus SLRs with Ilford Film in black and white. Over the course of four years, I had the chance to shoot with all manner of cameras and lenses - an old twin lens reflex, Lensbaby lenses, infrared, and more. I processed my work in the school's darkroom. Toward the end of junior year, I transitioned to digital and began working in Adobe Photoshop. My work was featured in several student shows, including one sponsored by the Art Institute of Chicago.
My work has been featured in local publications, galleries, and ad campaigns. My favorite subjects to shoot are landscapes, wildlife, nature, abstract, and—of course—my dogs, River (R) and Denali (below).
